The Most Important Vaporwave Aesthetic/Outrun/Retro video games

Wow, this video took a long time to make. I’m not sure how many hours I’ve spent but the editing alone was at least 30.
In this video i dissect and talk about Vaporwave/Outrun styles in video games and which games have inspired the retro aesthetic movement. I mainly focused on Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon and Hotline Miami, but also Trials of the Blood Dragon and outdrive. Shout out to my boys and girls for the amazing response on my vids and getting me across that 300 sub milestone, love you all!

  2. Are there any ps4 games?

  3. You could just call it retrowave.

  4. I played Vice city when it came out and i hope to god they do a new one

  5. forgot to mention this retro movement is also inspired by late stage capitalism

  6. I have a vaporwave/synthwave inspired game project

  7. GTA games? you should mention.

  8. Heyp, late to the party, but … what does this video title mean? My mind goes "Yea, this title does not compute at all", here.

What confuses me, I think, is the combination of a generalized visual aesthetics and a genre of electronic music in context of retro video games; with an EXPLICIT mention of "outrun" (the style of electronic music), yet still the complete and total EXCLUSION of "Out Run" (the video game) that the entire genre derives it's name from.

Doing a quick wikipedia search for background information, we get the following tidbits of information:

    1. "Vaporwave" is a subgenre of electronic music, which extends to a somewhat defineable visual format, as much as it does to a type of music.

    2. "Synthwave" (also called outrun, retrowave, futuresynth) is a genre of electronic music influenced by 1980s film soundtracks and video games.

    3. The subgenre of "synthwave" named "outrun", is derived from the 1986 driving arcade game "Out Run", which was/is known for its soundtrack.

So, in summary: within the context of the "outrun" subgenre and retro video games, how did you NOT mention "Out Run" (the arcade game) at all?

  9. imagine not having VA-11 HALL-A on the list 😍😍😍

  10. Looks like I have to watch Drive

  11. vice city is such a beauty

  12. I've made a vaporwave game on my own: 🙂

  13. Rip your child hood, I’m 23 and I played the shit out of Vice City when It came out. My older brother got it and I would play it any time he wasn’t home.

  14. Outrun is more like a subgenre of synthwave nowdays. There is Dark Synth, Summer Synth, Space Synth and so on.

  15. That fact that there is no mention of Broken Reality is genuinely upsetting. It is literally "the vaporwave game"

  16. Compared anything to Soulsborne = instant dislike

  17. What about Slipstream? I love the arcade racing aesthetic!

  18. Get to the Orange Door is a great, super aesthetic game
